Steps
  1. Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Cook the pasta according to package instructions until al dente. Reserve 1/2 cup of pasta water and drain the pasta.

  2. While the pasta cooks, heat the olive oil in a large pan over medium heat.

  3. Add the sliced garlic to the pan and sauté until golden brown and fragrant, about 2-3 minutes. Be careful not to burn the garlic, as it can turn bitter.

  4. Add the red pepper flakes to the garlic oil and stir for about 30 seconds.

  5. Add the drained pasta to the pan with the garlic oil. Toss the pasta to coat in the oil and garlic mixture. If the pasta seems dry, add some reserved pasta water, a tablespoon at a time, to achieve the desired consistency.

  6. Season with salt and freshly ground black pepper to taste.

  7. Remove from heat and garnish with freshly chopped parsley.

  8. Serve immediately with a sprinkle of grated Parmesan cheese, if desired.
