Steps
  1. Thinly slice the apple and lightly season with a pinch of salt if desired.

  2. Lay out two slices of bread and spread mayonnaise or mustard on one or both slices if using.

  3. Layer the turkey, cheddar cheese, and apple slices. Add lettuce or arugula if desired.

  4. Top with the second slice of bread.

  5. Serve cold, or for a warm version, butter the outside of the bread and grill in a pan over medium heat until golden brown and the cheese is melted.

  6. Slice in half and serve immediately.
